I have ran into tons of Roosevelts with a double rim (railroad rim) that runs for a short distance. However, this is the first I have found that has another set of reeding. Just wondering if these are rare at all or have I just not ran into one yet. It looks kind of cool. I can't find anything else wrong with it and this is not duplicated on the reverse.
Not quite sure because I am only familiar with cents, but it looks to me what I would think would be a misaligned die. Hope someone else chimes in.
Yep, collar clash. The portion of the die that makes the top flat part of the rim clashed with the edge of the collar leaving a mark that shows the eop edge of the reeding cuts. When the die was realigned the top bot of the rim now shows that clashmark.
Thanks for the help. I got the same answer on another forum about an hour ago. I did some research and it all checked out. Thanks again.
