Well guys I'm trying to learn to call these on my own but sometimes I just have questions. Would this be considered a doubled ear or not. I did some research on it with variety Vista unable to come up with anything on it. So I would appreciate any thoughts or comments on it thank you.
http://doubleddie.com/587634.html VV stops on LMC's around 96 I think? Wexler has gone beyond even 2008 and has recently attributed two DDO's for 2017P's as well as several for the 2015's that aren't nearly as subtle. In fact, DDO's virtually aren't supposed to exist for single squeeze coins, only DDR's pretty much and those are only supposed to be theoretically possible towards the center. Plenty of attributed coins exist conflicting those baselines, O's and R's both. They are 'god only knows' Class 9. More details of that ear lobe from different angles to make sure it hasn't taken a hit? Do you see any additional n/s on lincoln? Line just above collar? Details of the rest of the obverse devices??? The Y catches my eye, do you see the north/south on it? If this is one and hasn't taken a hit sustaining damage, I don't see it has been attributed and haven't checked coppercoins or lincolncentresource to fully verify. Those would be good places to bookmark and check. Also good is to compare this one to a handful of 98D's to see if you note additional thickness or shape deviations from your consensus. Peek at this 97's ear image and verbage. http://doubleddie.com/834539.html And here will be some detail shots of general appearance of 98D devices including a few obverse details. http://doubleddie.com/587634.html Good eye regardless of how it turns out.
Yes I have compared it with nine other coins and none have that marking. Also it has not took any hits around the ear area, also I looked in my book at the 97 although the 97 is more distinguished than mine. So that's why I posted it to see if anybody else can look at it I can post more pics of it if needs to be. But I'll take your advice and I'll go ahead and research those other websites that you mentioned above appreciate it sir thank you.
What you have is the beginning of some die deterioration. In my days crh'ing , I found many like that.
Well that's a shame just about time I think I'm going to find something another let down. But that's coin roll hunting isn't, well off to the next batch. They're out there just got to keep looking and looking and looking thank you sir appreciate it.
I believe that some of previously attributed double ears have been down graded or believed to be die chips.
Yeah that's what my book shows and the difference was mine appears to have the lobe where that one you can see where it comes up behind the ear that's where I was having the hard time.
"However it is a neat variety". Ask Dr. Wiles what he thinks it is since he certainly still has it listed. You really should image the rest of the devices. I'm sure there are others just like it and regardless, it will carry some premium.
