Do pennys have any other metal in them or just copper,reason i am asking is this one has what looks like steel around the outside of the coin[the ring]and comes over just a little onto the front and back of it.If needed i can post pics.Thanks
Some of the copper plating has come off the zinc core. Current cents minted since part-way through the 1982 production run consist of a 99.2% zinc/.8% copper core, plated in pure copper. They are slightly lighter than the previous solid copper coins. Edited: I gotta learn to type faster.
