got this guy for $31 at a local coin shop i understand 1996 coins are worth a bit more than others. condition is fair, i have no idea how to accurately grade a coin however. It does not appear to be cleaned or have any finger prints on it, and i can't find a mart to know where it was minted. Looking to get more information about the approximate value of this coin. Thanks in advance.

Its worth melt or 31.00. since thats what you paid for it. it may be worth more to someone else. the trick is finding that person

he is right, there is, in theory, not premium. However, there is the 20% built in premium, which works both ways(dealer pays 20% less than spot, sells it for 20% more than spot).

I wouldn't use that dealer, that is a huge spread. (spread being difference between buy and sell prices for those that don't know)

Just a concept. But he has to make some money.

I think you would get between $40 and $50 for this coin on ebay most likely, of course you have to factor in their fees if you are planning to flip it.

You made a very good buy though, I'd buy this coin all day long at $31 with silver at $28. I do believe its the most desired year of the bullion american eagle coins.

Lowest mintage ASE. Some dealers sell these for $45 each at local shows.
