Blind-ended die cracks like these are rather common on Roosevelt dimes. They tend to develop along the eyebrow, nostril, and corner of the mouth, just as in your specimen.
Dime nut: Nice die cracks. I found a bunch of die cracks on some Roosies, 1964 I think, (I have to research the records to check) and they were nice and progressive. Whenever you find a group like this it is still unusual, and especially if you can see the progression of the die cracks. :thumb:
Yes it was very interesting when I found them. I had cracked open a roll that I have had for some time and was getting a close look at the coins when I noticed the one in the picture, it was the most obvious. When I looked at the others I found about 20 of them starting with just a tick of the crack and they progress up to the one in the picture. I had never seen such a thing before so I was fascinated.
What is too bad about this is, if that were a Morgan or a Peace, you would have just won a mini lottery!! Those are very cool cracks
Since they are so common, are they worth anything? I have a couple that I have saved as well. I am so new at this, thanks for your patience.
Much: FIrst, welcome. Yes there is a premium, but, depending upon the collector, not a large one. It also depends on the series. Gold die cracks are scarce. As are Morgan and Peace dollars. Wheaties are fairly common (the Libierty pieces come to mind).
