1996 nickel mispelled in god we trust

    It's not misspelled. If it was misspelled, all of the other coins struck by that same die
    (100,000 or so I am not sure how many) would also be misspelled.
    Not an error. Do you think they don't check the die and test the die before they put it into production?
    Yeah we were all drunk on the late shift that night and the misspelled die slipped through our fingers.

    Die life for five cent is somewhere between 300K and 500K. And since all the dies come from the same master hub, if there was a misspelling ALL of the five cent pieces for that year would be misspelled

    Check the dies, Yes. Test the dies, No. Testing is done in the coin production, if it fails immediately you stop and change the die, if it doesn't you just keep the press running.

    I was taught many years ago to spell and unless the spelling has changed it's spelled correctly. Your nickel is damaged.
