1996 Lincoln cent, reverse doubled die ?

    Trying to determine if coin has a doubled die. Can use some expert advice on this ? Regards, Mike L.

    Looks like MD to me. All the doubling has the shelf-like appearance. I also checked LCR and there is no DDR listed for 1996.

    Nice pictures! Someone should do a guide to DD vs. MD...and use your pictures for the MD part (very nice).

    I really hate to say it, but if you have to ask it's probably machine doubling. Trust me, most double dies will really jump out at you.

    ...and some are very obscure (a barely perceptible fatness in the devices).

    For beginners, asking whether a coin is a doubled die is all part of the learning experience. Finding a doubled die takes a lot of trial and error, and I think that someone asking whether a coin is a variety or not doesn't really have anything to do with the likelyhood of the coin in question being collectable.
