I think I may have found one this time. Mostly looking at the loop of the 6 in 1996, has that doubled look but not that seen on FS-101, which I was looking for. Regardless I still think I see a minor doubled die. What do you all think?
Here are some sites I've been using to try to match it to. Wexler: http://www.doubleddie.com/446833.html CONECA: http://www.varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/DDO 1996.htm CopperCoins: http://coppercoins.com/diesearch.php
Is that the one you think it is? Ill have to go back and check for the small die gouge by the G in GOD, Wexler mentions it in his listing that is cross referenced to the one you linked below. Thanks for the response!
Look at the " B " in LIBERTY . Here's the cherrypickers . Here's #2 . Here's yours . Look at the bottom hump of the " B " . The cherrypickers is thin . #2 is thick . Your looks like #2, to me ...
I must’ve forgotten to attach the photo of the days, my bad, sorry. I see what you’re saying about the B. I for sure dont think this one is Cherrypickers, dates just not strong enough, but Ill have to get closeups of the B to you guys. Ill also try to get pickups of possible die markers for #2.
I know they’re not the best pictures, because the microscope inverts it, but I think it demonstrates the thickness well, looks to be the thicker variety, although I dont see that “notching” you picture shows.
So Wexler mentions 3 die markers in his listing for the second variety. I took picture of the close up areas and see all but maybe one (the die scratches above the T in CENT). I also took more photos of the date and of LIBERTY. I hope these can help determine the match for this coin! Small die gouge by G in GOD: Small die gouges beneath second 9 in date: Entire date region: LIBERTY: Small NNE to SSW die scratches above T in CENT: Opinions? -Soren
This images seals the deal for me on #2 . Coppercoin #2 is the same as coneca #2 . One of the markers is " BIE " error and here it is . Coppercoins .
Here's the site and it's under MDS . http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1996&die_id=1996p1do002&die_state=mds
Oh wow! I didn't even notice the BIE! It's funny, because I posted this thread asking if it even was a doubled die, and really truthfully wasn't expecting it to be more than my eyes thinking it was! Thanks for all the help! Probably just put this one in a 2x2 flip.
So, for when I label the flip, what is most preferred? This coin cross references as Wexler WDDO-003 "Best Of" Variety, CONECA 2-O-V (DDO-002), CopperCoins 1996P-1DO-002, and Crawford CDDO-002. Im thinking probably Wexler or CONECA. On another note, I also read in the Cherrypicker's Guide listing for FS-101 a note that intrigues me: "This is the last date possible for doubled dies produced by the multiple hubbing process, with the exception of the 1999 Susan B. Anthony dollar." So, it is clear here that FS-101 must be caused by the multiple hubbing process, but was DDO #2 produced by that same process? Or by some other means? Going off (my uneducated eye's) looks, it appears that it is, but I could be wrong.
I see no raised Mark's indicating die gouges, could you give a direction as where to look or point them out with an arrow.
The doubling is most visible on the date. The BIE is there but is no means large or really visible in the photos. The die gouges are very small as well, but theyre there.
This would be because of the die state. Bigger chip later die state. I would like to inform everyone there is a firm of split plate doubling that mimics this class of doubling.. One thing I know is the date looks like a twisted tootsie roll. That's my usual go to when identifying this variety. The variety wears fast probably not found below AU condition.
