Well I was doing some roll searching and working on a folder when this caught my eye. But I thought there were no more RPMs after 89? I couldn't find any error 96s online anywhere and the only thing I can think of residue from the die but it sure looks like a D over something to me. This was the best picture I could get.
From the photo it appears to be either a die gouge or a die crack. You are correct that 1989 was the final year of the hand punched mint mark.
Well if I can get a better pic then I'll put it up but there is something coming out from under the D on the west side also. You can see it but barely on this picture. It looks like a slanted D under it to me. I need a magnifier for my phone cam.
most likely a plating blister, its the most common fault with zincolns... nevermind got pennies on the brain after posting a bunch of pic in other thread .... duh..
Do any of the other devices show doubling? It can't be an RPM. How about a full coin shot as close as possible.
Jay brings up a very good educational point. A mint mark after 1989 can be doubled, but it's not because of an RPM, but rather a doubled die. There are several examples in the Lincoln Cent series. I don't think that is the case here, but it's something to keep in mind as you search.
Nope. I didn't notice anything else cept for the date being worn down a little which was what caught my eye in the first place. I'm going to put this one aside for now. Thanks for the help peeps. I'm thinking it could be a gouge. Nothing else looks doubled.
