I have a mint set of 1995 eagles still in original packaging. I have heard that if the grade of the silver eagle is high enough it is worth a lot of money. What is the 'chance' it might be so and it is worth cracking it open for grading? -C
What did this set originally sell for and what is its approximate value today? EDITED---Such comments shouldn't be posted in the Coin Forum--take it to the Politics, Religion and World Events Forum
Issue price was $995 if memory serves. Today sets without haze selling for close to $5000. cwb - I would leave the set alone and sell it as is assuming you want to sell it.
Ebay There is a set bid to 6500 now buy at 6800. One set for what ever reason got a bit over done at 8100. I am looking at my original set buy card, they were shown as 999.00 with a production number of 45000 limit the four coin gold set was also 999.00 with a production limit of 10.000 units. less were made of each. I belive 30,000+ for the anniversary set and high eights for the four coin sets.I just had this out so no parsing words !A lot of these appear to have been bought to get the SE. I am not sure if an MS 70 of this coin has been done by PCGS .A bit of a gamble.I have all the sets execept the philadelphia short set. my goal is to go until I give them to one daughter, and all the foreign sets to the other. Be well Floyd
I was referring to dealer buy prices. Yeah you might get a higher bid on ebay - but will you get the money ?
keep the coins I think I would rather keep the coins. You are right Doug if it is about money and not collecting then you open a door that may be difficult to shut. Be well Floyd
just to clarify, not interested to sell as much as to know the chances of the silver coin having a high grade mint rating. Thanks for all the advice and if anyone knows the stats/probability of a high grade for this coin let me know
THANKS! Someone mentioned HAZE. Is this something due to poor storage or just poor quality mint coins? (sry a newbie) I keep this in a safety deposit box... any concerns about that? THanks again
Haze is caused by the planchet washing process before the coins are ever struck - on some coins it develops and others it never does. As for keeping it a safety deposit box - well it's safe from theft there. But typically bank vaults are lept at a high humidity in order to help prevent paper deterioration. And high humidity is bad for coins. So if you store your coins there you need to use silica gel packs in the box and they must be changed as needed.
1995 W Am eagle gold & silver set i think this set is going to hit $8,500.00 at least before this year closing. and next year should be more than $10,000.00.
wow (10k!!?) GD, so you are saying the mint casings are not so hermetically sealed? I am dissapointed. These have been in there for a few years. Maybe I dont have such a valuable item now.. ((
Tracy---I'm always glad to read your post--but I think you have gone wayyyy overboard on this....by any chance do you go by the PCGS price guide???...if so that isn't a good guide. Speedy
The oink As more and more of these set s are broken down for the silver 1995w there are fewer avaliable. The packaging is available. If you put a regular 1995 set in the place of the gold and maybe a nice 1993 SE and waited for a trade or deal to purchase that key coin you might get it done if you can barter or trade. That might be an alternative if you have the 1995 standard set and are fixated on the anniversary set. A frie:hatch: nd of mine says a chinese butcher uses all but the oink when processing a pig. whats the difference between regular and ann set? The silver coin? Mine is the full gold and silver set in the case. Seems it was the first W silver coin minted of that type...
Correct They made a standard four coin set and an Anniversary set in 1995. I puchsed two, and acquired another from a barter deal. All look the same . Be well Floyd
