Having problems figuring this one out. This a fellow coin collectors quarter who gave me permission to post this on our site. It's just bizarre and I can't think of what or how this happened.??
Indent strikes are strike errors that happen when two coin blanks are placed in one collar with the other coin on top not properly placed on the collar. When the upper die strikes, it creates a depression on the coin below shaped similar to the coin blank on top.
How do coins with errors get out of the Mints. I know they have to look at a lot of coins after they are minted. I have never seen a mint error coin except on this website.
I am guessing (except for those that "walk" out of the mint), if it an error coin makes it through the coin counting machines it will not get caught. How some of the large errors like the multiple die cap strikes, that are the size of a small fist, get out of the mint is anyone's guess (does the mint sell these to dealers under contract or something?).
