First post. I've been using this forum since the day I started looking at coins a couple years ago. I've learned a lot here.

Found this tonight while CRH and I don't think I have seen this before. It looks systematic so I can't think its from grease....but I don't know.

What do y'all think? The B in liberty and 995 looks off too. I'm just curious what this is or what could cause it.

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

A pic of the whole coin would go a long way, but I'd sat it was struck with a worn die.

I'll see what I can do. I'm working with some pretty cheap equipment.

It looks like die deterioration to me, too.

The slanted letters on Liberty are interesting though. This has been happening on the newer shield cents and for a reason that escapes me, are being designated as doubled dies. It probably is from a worn die (Philly as usual) but in this constantly changing hobby, who knows?
