Is this an error or is it post mint damage? The only copper layer seems to be on that one spot (in the picture) only. And about the letters above the memorial, is this what they mean by "split serifs"? Thanks
Yes. Sorry about that clad mistake. Did some more research and found that out. Also found some more like this one. Someone posted this pic of these three Lincolns. One normal, one gold plated and the other missing the copper layer. Thank you for your opinion.
I’ll second his opinion and say it’s very easy to use chemicals to remove layers on coins. We see these often.
Thanks 86. That's what I figured at first with all the black stuff that was on it I figured it was in a fire or some edited and the layer of copper had melted off lol. Just some nut out there had hoarded up a lot of 95's, chemically dipped them then put them back in circulation by this site https://www.finishing.com/202/40.shtml where alot of people where inquiring about them.
