I found this in a box of halves. I see its from Ireland but can you tell me more about it? Thanks for your time.
Hmm, it's an Irish 1 punt (Irish for "pound") coin. Mintage in that year was about 10 million. You could take it to the Irish central bank and get €1.27 for it ($1.67). 1995 was not the most common year for that coin, but still I don't think a collector would give you much more for a circulated piece ... You'd probably get about $2-$3 for it on eBay if you wanted to sell it. I recently was working on a collection of Irish coins and the late 90s coins don't come up for sale that often, so when they do sometimes a few people get into a small bidding war for them.
I think Irish coins are neat and that is one of the more attractive ones. It's big and has the deer, and those are two points in its favor. A lot of collectors value factors like that.
I like it I was excited when I saw it on the end of a roll looking for Enders. The way it looks like it was minted is weird it's like a sandwich with to shells of metal for bread then there is a smaller core and weird reeding which makes the coin more special to me.
