This was graded MS68RD by ICG. I got it several months ago and have noticed discoloring at bottom of obverse. What does this do to its value?

Yikes...that is NOT a good thing! I would contact ICG and forward these pics.

This will lower the grade of the coin and obviously hurt its value. A PCGS MS68RD 1995 DDO goes for around $125-$135, while a MS67RD goes for around $90 to $100. A NGC coin in the same grade would sell for $20-$25 lower.

There are many graded 1995 DDO's out there. Even a MS65RD coin only goes for around $30-$35.

I think you may be stuck with it since ICG doesn't guarantee the grade of copper coins (for this exact reason). In fact, IIRC, only PCGS does guarantee copper coins, which is part of why they are the marketplace favorite for copper.

Wow, I think at best that coin would now grade an ms-65, possibly a 4. :(

Sloppy handling by IGC? Maybe he just got done eating a greasy cheesburger and didn't use gloves. Who knows. So I guess I just let this sit in my collection, huh?

Looks like it might have been a dip job gone bad :(

NGC does guarantee copper, but only for 10 yrs.

I have a MS-68 RD PCGS 1995 DDO. That I got off a guy for 80.00 last year. Not a bad buy.

You already know the answer to that CT - no I have not, doubt I ever will. But that has nothing to do with the question, as you also know ;)

Sorry about that, I had a tooth removed yesterday and all of my posts from then should be taken with a grain of salt as I was in a Vicodin induced stupor and I'm not sure that I was quite myself, lol. ;)

LOL !! - sounds like a great excuse, mind if I borrow that from time to time ?? :D

To be quite hoenst CT, I'm always amazed that I don't get asked that more often. And it certainly doesn't bother me pal :high5:

They might do right by you. They have nothing to gain by leaving that coin in their plastic, so they might work something out for you.

Doug-sure, use the excuse whenever you want, just email me if you need me to mail the tooth to you (they let me keep it lol ). Actually, when i told my Dad about having the tooth pulled he responded, "remember the tooth fairy pays $1 per too." So I am gonna sell it to offset the bills lol:desk:

Well guys, I did contact ICG. The gentlemen e-mailed me back within 24 hours and told me to ship it back to them and they would take a look at it and find out what went wrong, then reslab it. It probably won't come back MS68RD, but he offered to do this at NO CHARGE. I was seriously impressed. THAT is good customer service. So, since they did that I sent that other 1995 DD to them to be graded. Maybe a stupid thing to do, but who knows. They did something for me they DID NOT have to do, so they gained a customer. And per Paul Defelice at ICG (VP, Client Relations & Marketing) they DO NOT guarantee copper. Thanks all and IGC!
