A die crack runs along the left side of the lamination peel (behind Abe's ear)and looks very close to breaking(the die crack). It also looks like I can run something under the lamination and pull it up from the surface. Probably not a good idea though...
Hey Dollar, Nice find! Alas it does look as old Abe has the dreaded zinc rot. Get some VerdiCare and treat that cent or in your 1994 will just be a shell of copper like a snake skin. Here is one of mine I found in storage from 2012. This coin was really nice when I put it away! The D is in the hole. Think Florida sink holes.
Thanks 352sdeer, I had to google VerdiCare and have a couple of questions? Do I use Acetone first and then apply VerdiCare? Also, who supplies VerdiCare? Tried Home Depot, Walmart, Ace, and others and couldn't find.
I don’t want to get in trouble for pumping a product or web site here. I’ll do it like this: The site that sells Verdicare rhymes with gizzards but starts with a W.. You only need to use acetone to clean any grease or oily type residue off. The Verdicare cleans the coin surface and softens Verdigris to make it easier to remove. The nice part about the stuff is that it coats the coin with a protectant that you can’t see but research shows protects the coin metal from future environmental damage. Just RTFM and follow the directions
