Saw a sale on on the 94 Women in Military Dollar for $37.05. NGC graded MS-69. Graysheet has the ask at $33. It doesn't seem like a bad price but it doesn't seem like the modern dollars appericate much. So whats the jury say? Deal or no deal at $37.05? And none of this, "if you like it, buy it" stuff. :goof:
modern supergraded coins are a dime a dozen, you buy it for $37 and won't even be able to get $30 out of it a year later or even 5 years later.
No deal. A person can usually get them at sheet if they wait and keep shopping. Without the gov't packaging, some collectors don't want them.
Fair or not, MS69 is often viewed as the "FAIL" grade for modern commems. I would pass and I think you could buy one in original government packaging for a little less with patience.
I agree. Buying modern commem's graded only adds more to your bottom line. Most of these things grade out pretty high to begin with. You could save a bundle by going with OGP. As to the original question, buy modern commem's because you like them, not because you think you're going to make any money on 'em down the road. Just a "modern" guys humble opinion......
It seems the jury has reached a verdict. No Deal! :hammer: Good points everyone. I do like to pick up the moderns when their at wholesale. As I stated before, they don't seem to appericate so their clearly not an investment. Then again, I never thought of coins as an "investment" personally. I was just wondering since somebody already paid for the slabbing if it would be worth it. Good points that MS-69 is failure grade and most OGP are going to be MS 65+. Thanks for the input.
I got five (5) PCGS MS69 "Jessica Lynch" autograph ones a few years ago for a pretty good price. I bought them for the silver, not the signature. I also got some PCGS MS69 "Lance Armstrong" autograph coins, but I forget what the coin was. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I got them all for around $25 each (silver was cheaper then).
