    Hi Everyone!

I ran across a penny today that looks like something I have never seen before. A guy at work told me that it might be double stamped. I am not a collector and really do not know anything about this sort of thing. I ran across this forum and was told you might be able to help. I am attaching a photo and look forward to your response. Thanks! :)

First of all, Coins are struck not stamped (packages are stamped, coins are struck)

Second of all, I don't really know, wait for somebody who knows about this

After reading a bit more, I realized that double stamped was the wrong term. In any case, I cannot seem to find any info about what is going on with this penny. Just seems very interesting? Thanks for the reply.

Well ... that was a chilly answer was'nt it ? I can't get over some of the lousy attitudes that come out of this site.

Anyways ... try posting your photo at an error coin thread. Maybe someone who knows what they are talking about will give you the answer you are looking for.

Looks like the word GOD is reversed & Lincoln's head is reversed probably from clashing with another Lincoln Cent.

Hi McBlzr... Thank you so much for the reply! My husband was looking around the house for a magnified glass so we could possibly see a bit better as to what was going on there. So interesting to look at (while at the same time trying to figure it out). Is this something that is common? I have never seen anything like it.

Is the sideways Lincoln pressed into the coin rather than out?

Yes possibly. It is a bit hard to tell. I can tell you that where you see it divided there you can feel it on the penny. As if it was "chipped" but you can tell that it wasn't because it is all there. (does that make sense?) The sideways Lincoln feels to be more indented than the other parts.

Because of the "Indented" theory, I am leaning towards the "PMD" side of the spectrum with a guess at a "Squeeze Job". If it were a double-struck error, they would not be indented.

Edit: I also see that the other Lincoln is a mirror image showing a better sign of a squeeze job

Thanks for the reply :) I do not completely understand what you mean, but assuming you mean somehow two coins got stuck or something and it wound up like this? Sorry for my ignorance lol...

Pretty much, somebody took plyers, laid another penny on top, and squeezed.

Could we see the reverse for marks?

Wow! I thought that at first, but was not sure so that is why we came here :) I will take a pic of the reverse real quick.

Yep looks like somebody layed another Lincoln Cent on the Obverse side & either squeezed with pliers as Caz said. Or hit them together with a big hammer. Ban_Hammer.jpg

HA! Very strange that someone would do that, but then again, people do strange things :) Thank you for all of your help! Finding this and reading around through the forum has shown us, if nothing else, that we need to look at our change! Have a great night and we look forward to reading up more on this kind of thing.
