I have this 1994-P Roosevelt dime which I got in change a number of years ago and want to share it with you. I believe the Planchet was irregular having a thin spot when it was struck. Any one ever found one like this before?
Maybe not the planchet but the Die that struck it. The Die in that area probably got compacted with debris/grease and did not allow the letters to be formed properly. Really extreme.
I have ordered a scale and will weigh it to see if all the metal is there. I hope that will tell me some more.
I think @paddyman98 is correct. If the planchet was thin/irregular, the opposite area on the obverse would be very weak or missing and it's not. Still, it's a rather nice filled die error
Odds are it's a struck thru, and the coin weighs within tolerance. If it were struck on a tapered thin planchet, the opposing side would also be weak in the same areas. (aside from a possibly weak '4', it looks normal on the obv.)
As a follow up I My scale arrived today and the weight was 2.5 gm compared to some normal circulated dimes of 2.4 gm.
You need to start your own thread and provide clear pictures of both the obverse and reverse. You will get better responses. Welcome to CT!
