Hi! Just looking for insight on this dime found in a bag full of rainbow tarnished coins. On the reverse side it’s missing most of the stamp and very smooth. Also what causes rainbow tarnish??

artificial toning can cause rainbow tarnishing.

looks like a few dimes I accidentally had in with pennies in muriatic acid. though mine have more copper color.

Not a mint error. It was probably run over by a car and dragged around a parking lot for a while. I agree with @Clawcoins that this could also be the result of some sort of acid.

Whatever it is, the coin didn't leave the mint looking like that. Oh, and out of curiosity, where did you find a bag full of rainbow toned coins?
