I need help from all you copper experts. I checked coppercoins.com and cherrypickers but I find no mention of anything like the cent I have. He's not pretty but has tons of character. There are dots and maybe cuds all over this coin. To the left of the L in liberty, to the left of the r, in the middle of lincoln's nose, on most letters of the date, under the right bottom of his jacket, all over his cheek, and above In God We Trust. Most of all the mintmark looks doubled. What year did they stop punching the MM? What do I have?

    Thanks

    Greyford,

What you see on the coin is probably the result of contaminates trapped between the Zinc core and the Copper plating which are corroding (eating away) the coin from the inside out. This causes the Copper plating to bubble up somewhat as it separates from the Zinc core. Therefore, these spots are not cuds or dots! There also appears to be some contamination from environmental damage to the Copper plating which may also be eating away the Copper plating from the outside at the same time.

I concur completely. It's a corroded coin, not an error.

For cents 1989. They were the last denomination to get the MM on the Master Hub and that happened in 1990.

Thanks guys. I was hoping for a good find, but it's only worth one cent.

Yeah looks corroded..but hey you probably picked it up in change, right? So you're even on the one cent investment. :)
