Found 2 quarters 1994 D with double die lips today in my pocket change , anyone else have some of these? are they worth more than face? both are cirs and around F to XF
As a general rule machine doubling (the most probable cause) adds little or nothing to a coin's value, at least unless it is really outstanding and visible to the naked eye. How about a picture?
Definately machine/strike doubling. That is caused when the die slips during the coining process. It causes a flat shelf-like appearance to various portions of the features on the coin, usually the lettering. A true double die will, usually, have the doubling the same level as the other parts of the coin. There is no added value for shelf doubling.
I'm agree with everyone's assessment that it is machine doubling. GD has a good link under errors that clearly illustrates the difference.
