I have seen that these sets have a flaw. They leak air in to the common chamber that hold all coins, three gold, 1993 1/2oz , 1/4oz , 1/10 oz, 1993P ASE and the bicentennial coin. Leakage is having an effect on the silver ASE but the Bicentennial is the first coin near to be the leak point. That is the upper edge of the clear sheet that cover all coins. Many of these are being disassembeled for the coins which seem to be worth a bit more then the set itself. If you have one of these sets it might be worth having it graded if the one coin shows toning as if left in an atmosphere will black out. All the coins are available but the Bicentennial as far as I know. I find no reference to the the bicentennial by itself or any pricing for it. Possibly a forum member knows something about this. The sets are a US Mint product, and rather hard to find. This is one of those cases where the value is in the packaging since all of the coins were sold as individual items as well. There should be 4 coins though and 1 silver medal. The sets are selling for around $800.
Thanks I was wondering now that some of these sets are being broken up and the only coin that could not be replaced is the Bicentennial coin. It was sold as far as I can see with the set only. I believe about 12000+ sets were produced. Also a common chamber for all coins appears to be a problem. I can not remember another set being packaged in this manner. Possibly the adhesive they used in the set is now after near 14 years is getting hard and shrinking causing a common air leak. Pepperoni
