    It is just worn down on the reverse, like someone rubbed it on concrete or something. Just damage.

    Look at the edge.. You should see the Copper core sandwiched between the clad layers.

    Keep in mind the average life expectancy of a dime is 25 years. Your dime has endured for well, 25 years. It's common to find older ones like this to have interesting characteristics and personalities because by this point they have generally worked hard and seen a lot by the time they've made their way to you.
