Hey guys here's one I don't know anything about. 1993 D it has a dull finish not shiny and looks like gritty sandpaper on the obverse and the reverse. It has little or no silver showing on the edge and the dents around the edge show no damage. At first I thought maybe acid dipped, but if it was acid dipped wouldn't that show up on the edge too. Was also wondering if it could be environmental damage. I'm pretty sure it was damaged in some way but can't figure out what caused it. Thanks for any information you can provide.
IMO I would say environmental damage but how and why is a mystery only the dime itself would know. JMO Dave
Damaged. Whats with the chemical resistant gloves? Were you worried that there might be some acid residue on your dime?
I have found Dimes like yours at beaches. Metal Detecting finds. Long exposure to the sand can affect the clad layer. Like a sandblasted effect.
