This penny is a 1992 D and it looks like every letter and number were placed on it and then ripped off and replaced. I have never seen one like it. If you look close you can see the shading under the numbers and letters where they USED to be. The Reverse has nothing like it. In the last two pictures of the " 9" it looks like it used to be a " 5 " under it.
This is a case where we can't see the "big picture" Without seeing the whole coin I believe this is what is called plating doubling. it is caused by the copper plating shifting and is a form of die deterioration, Please post a picture of the whole coin so we can confirm. Richard
More of the 1992 Weirdo Here are a few more. I do not have the resources yet to take a clear full size picture. I found some extra metals in the 9's and if you look at the ONE in 1992 there is an extra strip of metal too. Should I clean it? I am not a dealer , I am a collector. Pic#1 is the One in 1992.
