A friend of mine showed me a 1992 D cent I do believe that looked like it was struck on just the zinc planchet. No copper coating at all. What is the rarity/value of this? The observe has a strong strike and the reverse is a bit weaker.

My first guess would be that someone has plated it. Have you weighed it? What color is it?

A picture would help. Is the coin dull or shiney in appearance. The plating could have been remove or it's from the mint.

My camera is shot at this moment. The coin is dull in appearance. It doesn't look like it was plated. It would have to have been perfect as I cannot see anything indicating that it was plated. I will break out the scale and weigh it. Should be pretty accurate as it weighs to the hundreth of a gram. Will get back to you once I get that done. Thanks for all the input... Jerry

    Hi,

If it is dull in appearance it has likely had the copper plating removed.

    Thanks,
    Bill

It is probably fake, something a high school student did for fun. Once there's a picture we'll have a pretty good idea if it has been stripped or plated, but if it is real, and BU, maybe $100. When they are slabbed by PCGS they can go for more.
