Here I have my 1992 D penny (double die). Unfortunately it's not the close am. Please give me some feedback on this. Is it really considered double died and how much could it be worth? Thank you very much
Better images are needed, try to match them to these ... 1992-D 1¢ WDDR-001 Description: Notches show on the lower letters of ONE CENT. Extra thickness shows on the designer’s initials. Die Markers: Obverse: A small die gouge can be found near the vest to the left of the bottom of the mint mark. Reverse: A die gouge can be found between the Memorial and the top of the O in ONE. Submitted By: William Slaughter Cross References: None known OP, your mint-mark placement matches perfect too ...
The correct terminology is Doubled Die not Double Quote - "Note that the proper terminology for this occurrence includes the letter 'd' at the end of the first word, hence "doubled die". The term "double die" without the first word ending in 'd' is not proper numismatic terminology." closed quote I want to share this webpage with you - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doubled_die
If you are refering to the Doubling on your date.. this is considered Die Deterioration Doubling. Not an error and no premium Here is a close up picture of your 1992
If you look at E PLURIBUS UNUM, you could see the same words in the background. On top of states, you could see some pieces of the letter on top of it and same thing for the ted part in united. Also, on top of the Lincoln memorial, it has this little outline around it. Same for in the back of Lincoln's head. Thank you guys for checking my penny out. Thanks for the advice and help, I really appreciate it
Yes I see that also. Again I say, that is not true doubling caused by a Doubled Die. It is a common plating issue founds on many Copper Plated Zinc Cents. Also caused by Die Deterioration.
Here's what going on with your coin ( Planchet ) Alex . But this will never stop it from being a DDR .. http://www.error-ref.com/blisteredplating/
I just found this today. Im new at collecting coins and new to the site. It is not a close am but it sure is a nice double die. What would something like this be worth. Any comments are welcome. Also the double die photo has not been edited the doubling is vissable with the naked eye.
Thought I would leave a reference for you. http://doubleddie.com/1801.html Use the index in the left column for your search.
I just found a near replica of this penny today so I thought I'd add my thoughts on this. It did catch my eye especially on the 1992 and D which I thought was doubled, but it's not consistent with actual doubled dies. It very much resembles deterioration as the reverse has zinc exposed above 'states' and top and right of the memorial. 'CE' in cent is also quite shallow, which truly shows it's a deteriorated die, especially when it's both obverse and reverse. Mine lacks the blisters though. Will definitely keep it... with my poor man's doubles.
