Term is doubled die. And I'm afraid it is not. Looks more like a plating issue from the pic.

Because it's a common occurance with Copper Plated Zinc Cents that's why.
    It's called Die Deterioration Doubling
    Sorry...Not a Doubled Die
We see these all the time on Cointalk

Sorry Mr. Over 4000 posts.. But I have to disagree with you on your attribution. What you showed is caused by another reason. This is simply Die Deterioration Doubling.

I'm almost at 4000 posts myself!

And that is why I stated "Or it's also maybe" - the key word being - "maybe". :) Keep disagreeing with me and you'll be at 4000 in no time at all! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't tell for sure from the picture. Any chance of getting a better one?

Your photo is so blurry that it is impossible to be 100% sure, but I really don't see any hub doubling.

I will try to get a better pic and try to show you just how far off the two 2s are.

It is called "incuse die deterioration doubling" Here is a web page that describes it. It is very common on 1992 cents.

I tried to explain it to him yesterday with the same webpage. Don't think he believes it. Hasn't even provided a better picture like he stated he would

I have found hundreds of Lincoln Cents with that error. Most of them are 1992,s 1990's, and 1989's. When I first started looking for error coins I thought I had struck it rich.
