Hi all. I was looking for some info on a coin I have and stumbled upon this forum. Can anyone here tell me where I can find any info or a value on a 1992-D Lincoln cent close AM variety.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Hi Mike. Welcome to the forum.
I'm no expert on Lincoln cents, but the only wide-close AM varieties I have ever heard of are on the 1998-2000 business strikes with proof reverses. >>Click here<< for a lot of information about them. :)

Thank you for the link Satootoko. I read some time ago in CW that there was a 1992-D close AM. The new reverse die for circulation strikes with close AM started being used in 1993 but appearently some where struck in 92, I read on one forum that 10 were known (2004 post). This is one variety that I look for when searching thru rolls and I found one a few weeks ago. I've searched ebay, current and completed and found nothing. The web searches are useless, I get 500K hits and nothing useful.

Thank you again for your reply,
    Mike

    Mike,

I have searched many rolls and tons of pocket change for the elusive 1992-D "Close AM" Cent! Congratulations on coming across one! I doubt that you will find much info (values) for these rare coins. I saw one on eBay more than a year ago and I don't remember what it fetched. Since they are apparently more rare than the 1999-P "Wide AM" Variety then I would say that they would bring a much higher premium in comparable grades! I have seen the 1999-P "Wide AM" Cents bring anywhere from $150 to over $500 in grades from MS-60 to around MS-65. If you wish to sell the coin, then I would recommend having it Authenticated, Certified and Slabbed by PCGS and place it on eBay with Reserve Price that you can live with. If the coin is a MS-75 or higher then I would place a significant Reserve Price on the coin and see what happens. If it doesn't sell, then you can always lower the Reserve Price when you relist it.

The above should read "If the coin is a MS-65 or higher then I would place a significant Reserve Price on the coin and see what happens."

    Good luck...Frank

Sorry! I meant MS-65 or higher.

My fingers are just too big for the keys! LOL!

    Hi Frank,
Thank you for the reply. I sent it to ANACS a few weeks back, 5 day turnaround, still waiting. I was unable to come up with a value, for insuance purposes to and from ANACS. I didn't use PCGS because I hardly ever use TPGs (this is the second time ever) and PCGS requires a membership. And being that it is a cent probably in the AU55 to 58 range I figured ANACS was as good. I probably will try ebay, with a "comfortable" reserve. If it is as rare as it seems and doesn't get many bids I may just keep it (a lot of folks seem to avoid auctions with reserves too). Then again it depends on how long I'm unemployed. :(

    Thanks again,
    Mike
