My dad gave me this coin and I am trying to research it for him. Maybe someone can help me since I am not a World Coin guy (yet). It appears to be a gold proof coin. I found a similar coin in this series of an Eagle on ebay and cannot find any examples of the Panda. The seller of the Eagle mentioned that the mintage is 10,000 but I cannot seem to confirm that fact. Here is what I have found so far: Geographic Location: Cook Islands Denomination: 50 Dollars Year: 1992 Composition: Gold Subject: Endangered Wildlife Obverse Description: Crowned head right, date below Reverse Description: Panda Ruler Name: Elizabeth II Diameter: 25 mm Weight: 0.25 (oz.) Fineness: 0.583 Actual Weight: (oz.) 0.146 If anyone has any additional links that I can go to research it (or any other info), I would appreciate it. I am curious of the value and the mintage numbers, as well as any other examples in this series for 1992. Thanks.
That is what is so strange about this. I see nothing anywhere about the 1992 $50 Panda. There is a 1991 $25 1/25 oz. 0.999 series that does show a Panda in the set. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1991-Gian...llars-1-25-Grams-999-Gold-Coin-/331686923863? I just want to know if ours is real or not. My dad said that he bought in on ebay about 15 years ago. I don't know why he did, since he didn't seem to know anything about it back then either.
