The Australian Silver Kookaburra was first introduced in 1990.

Each year that the Kookaburra is minted features a new design. Also, the Kookaburra is one of only a few silver coins in the world to feature a new design each year. Because of the annual changes and the very limited production by Australian’s Perth Mint, the Kookaburra is one of the most beloved silver coins of all time.

The 1992 reverse design depicts a mother kookaburra perched on a flowered branch with berries, craning its neck.

The obverse of the coin depicts the iconic portrait of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of England, created by artist Raphael Maklouf. Raphael Maklouf is a sculptor, best known for designing the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II used on the coins of many Commonwealth nations.

This gorgeous coin is certified perfect MS70 and is minted in a stunning "reverse-proof" deep cameo finish. The background is frosted while the images themselves are rendered in a mirror finish, which catches light beautifully.

Each coin has a face value of $1.00AUS and contains exactly one ounce 0.999 fine silver. Mint State 70 silver Kookaburras from 1992 can be very difficult to locate, making this a valuable coin to the discriminating collector.

The Perth Mint was built to refine gold mined in Western Australia and turn it into sovereigns. When sovereigns were withdrawn from circulation in 1931, the Mint used its skills in the production of other coins, while still continuing to refine gold. It remained under British ownership until 1970 when control passed to the Western Australian Government, who owns it to this day.

Kookaburras are large to very large terrestrial kingfishers native to Australia and New Guinea. Terrestrial animals are animals that live predominantly or entirely on land. The Kingfishers are a group of small to medium sized brightly colored birds
