Looks like a bit of a Misaligned Die Strike. What you see could be caused because of a High Pressure Strike. It raised up the rim a bit. IMHO
It's not missing - it's actually a rim cud. It's raised, because the rim design on then die chipped off/broke off. Rim cuds are collectable, but not worth anywhere near what a true cud would be worth.
It certainly looks raised on the rim in the photo. If it's recessed, then it's not a rim cud, obviously.
I didn't doubt your word that it was recessed. One possibility I considered was that it was a rim burr that broke off, but I've never seen a rim burr that long. Chris
Ok this changes things. I have examples like this. It's like rim edge metal (copper) that kind of sheard away. Don't know what it is.
It looked raised in the original pic but you can see it's recessed in post #8. Easy to write it off as PMD, but could it be a strike through? Probably still not worth anything, but kind of neat
I just had to look at the photos in a different perspective decided to use a zeke filter. I thought everyone would be interested. USMC60
I had to google zeke filter on line and found out it is some kind of polarizing filter? Just curious, why are these two images interesting? The second image I took at a different angle to better show incused area. Also, is zeke filter a hardware piece or an app?
I'm sure you can find some apps but do not hold me to that. What I have is Windows 10 and use the photo viewer, it has a nice little editing feature. Which has like 10 different filters that you can use. What I'd really like to see is a shot of the edge, that would confirm the missing metal.
I will post the edge (all intact by the way) first thing tomorrow morning. I'm having a hard time with incandescent lighting and my old camera getting a good image tonight. Also, I have an iMac so I'll have to do some research on that filter. Thank you again...
When you do, take a shot from the third side, I think that it is damage, my other thought is maybe something to do with the collar?
I thought I'd look up some photo editing sites for Mac. All I'm gonna say is do a Google search and just picked the one that you like. You have a wide variety it looks like.
Looks like a strip was some how removed to me. Peeled out by a rolling machine? Damage after it was struck is what I think I see. Just my opinion.
