wouldn't it be just the opposite since the narrower part of the device is the deepest on the die and would be the first to fill in with debri...?
Nice hearing from you @LaCointessa Can you "fill" me in? Like my debris filled die coin? Do you agree that is not worn?
@sunday13 - Surely you jest! Me opine about what you showed? I am here learning. I had no idea about what caused your skinny '1' was but if I see something like that again I will think of debris filled die!! It is AMAZING that each time I visit CoinTalk, I learn something new or learn a new term. It's great! Maybe @paddyman98 or @Pickin and Grinin can diagnose this?
classic die deterioration doubling... notice how thin the devices(numbers) are getting as the die wears...
I wasn't kidding at all! But thank you for making your status clear to me! I am here learning also! My skinny "1" and myself are thanking you! it feels great for me too!
I am not trying to challenge you. I am just posting this extra zoomed pic so I can notice the wear on the 2nd "1". i don't see any wear. I don't see any wear on the 1st "1" either. So now I am lost also...
The Doubling in the photo you posted is caused by a Push Doubling and is commonly called Machine or Mechanical Doubling... It is from a malfunction with the coin press and not the die itself. http://www.error-ref.com/machine-doubling/.
i was comparing to this, The image below shows die deterioration doubling on a 1999-P Jefferson nickel. http://www.error-ref.com/die-deterioration-doubling-raised/
