I found this quarter the other day. What you guys think? Also, I want to say thank you to everyone on here! I follow this daily and the help, information and opinions everyone provides is amazing. I am new and have learned so much from looking at everyone's posts and all the comments. You guys/gals are amazing and thanks for putting up with the not experienced type's like me!! Unfortunately the quarter isn't in the best shape, but I thought it might still be a cool find?
I am not sure what you see that would make it a Doubled Die? the neck and the leaf are Machine doubled. Doubled dies are not easy to find. One needs to do a lot of research to figure out the different types or doubling. Here is a reference. http://doubleddie.com/58222.html This Type of doubling is on the Die. It will take a while to train your eyes to find a true DDO or DDR. When you first see one you will start to understand the difference. This is what comes up on these threads the most and is what your quarter has. http://doubleddie.com/144801.html This type of doubling has to do with the striking process. And has nothing to do with the characteristics of the actual die.
Thanks for the information! Is that what causes the 3 stack on the leaves above the R and A on the leaves as well? The pic isnt the best and it looks like damage but its stacked 3 times there and maybe wasnt laminated fully?
MD can happen anywhere on the coin in any particular place. Even more than once. In the learning stage all of this is helpful information, but as you get more experience you won't even look twice at this coin.
And that's the key, a willingness to learn and accept others findings. Way too many newbies come here and post the same types of problem coins over and over again, never taking the time to even check links we provide. You will do well here and you likely won't see any snarky moments when others tend to get fed up. Welcome to Coin Talk.
Thanks guys! I received a great booklet from Clawcoins, (Thanks!) that I will read from cover to cover. And thanks to everyone for helping me and all the others who are new to coin collecting and often times, need the heart break of explaining what we think we see, is really not what is there. Lol
