1991 dmaged, or error?

I found this penny on a sidewalk recently and noticed the bigg hole in it, along with the smaller on on the edge. Was this done during or after it was made? Thanks

That is definately post mint. It is called zinc rot.

oh, thats cool, never heard of that, kind of like bronze disease?

 

Worse, Zinc rot, given a year or two can consume the entire coin. I have seen cents thst were little more than the copper plate forming a shell.
