Hi! I have these 2 coins from 1991d nickel. I’d noticed that letters on those 2 coins are different. One is thicker than the other one. Is this normal?
As a die is used it gets worn down or out or both. When the die strikes a blank planchet the metal has to move to form a coin. All that motion of metal on metal will and does remove metal from the die. The places in the die that form the letters can and do get bigger. This is refered to as Early Die Stage and Late Die Stage. The other thing that will make the two coins look different is how much wear the coin has. Details will look different as a coin is worn down. There are also other factors to consider.
Hello guys! I have this 1972 penny. It’s kinda old.. I’m not sure if this penny is double die. But I do see number 2 on the date is showing double. Also, there are some couple words of Liberty is double die too. Please give me your thoughts about this penny.Thank you very much!
Not that I can see. I don't think the "S" is a doubled Die. Only the 1972. I have included a photo that shows the DDO. Also the correct term is doubled Die.
