Where do i start with this one. I found this penny in a roll today at work, and right away i could tell something was off. It's diameter is bigger than any penny i have seen before (Closer to the diameter of a nickel). It's non-magnetic, and appears to be made of some kind of silver-toned metal. Any ideas? sorry about the typo.... Penny not peeny...lol
I'm inclined to think that your assumption of play money is correct. The rather unusual surface could be the result of an annealing error or more likely by contact with a caustic chemical. The larger diameter could be due to the coin being struck without a collar and the missing MM can happen, but it's the theory of "Occam's Razor"; the simplest explanation is usually right. More input from "error" people might be good though as it's not really my forte.
