I just got a 1990 nickle double stamped with a dime tails on the heads side of the nickle. (The heads side is nickel heads and a dime tails.)I will try and post pics soon. Would love to hear what your knowledge can tell me.
    Thanks for you time,
    Kenny

Howdy deepcolor123 - Welcome to the Forum !!

Can't say as I have heard of nickel/dime strikes - but I know cent/dime strikes exist. Please post pics so we can see what you have.

Sounds like another "vise job". I assume the dime details are incuse and mirror image. If so, then a dime was hammered or squeezed into the surface of your nickel. It is virtually impossible for a larger-size denomination to be struck by dies belonging to a smaller-size denomination. The larger coin will not fit into the feeder mechanism.

Mike - a question : couldn't it happen the same way the 11 cent coins do ? First a dime is struck - then the struck dime somehow gets into the feeder assembly for a press striking cents. Then the struck dime is again struck with cent dies - thus the 11 cent coin.

In this situation - we have the same struck dime that gets into the nickel press and is struck again with nickel dies.

Now I have no idea if that is the case with this member's coin - but it sounds possible. Is it ?

You can certainly get a "15 cent piece", should a struck dime get struck by nickel dies. However, "deepcolor123" appears to be describing an already-struck nickel getting struck again, this time by dime dies. Moreover, he says the dime design is restricted to the obverse face and is double struck. None of this corresponds to any known or theoretically possible error.

I agree with your assessment of what this coin likely is Mike - I just wanted to make sure my thinking was correct. I still have a lot to learn. Thanks ;)
