1989P Dime - weak strike? + die damage

    Do you think this is a weak strike or something else? The sharp edge of the rim is there. I don't see it as filed down. There's no damage to the reeding, however, the reeding is very weak at the point where the rim is strongest (above top of head). The coin has a lot of luster, but not much hair detail. Weight is good (2.28g).

    Next, look at the reverse. There is a nice sized spot of die damage above the E in ONE. There are a couple smaller areas . All are raised above the coin's field.

    I don't think it's a weak strike. It looks like the result of a grease-filled die. The raised area on the reverse could be a die break.

    Greased die is what I'm guessing. Maybe weak collar but I would need someone else to clarify on that, I'm not sure.

    You've got two unrelated errors here. The weakness in the design rim is most likely due to inadequate upset of the planchet. The raised blemishes on the reverse are die erosion pits (a manifestation of die deterioration).
