No, I dont have one. However, I did get an 89 P in change today from Taco Bell and for fun just looked it up. Theres only a couple people on this site I truly believe would even have a chance at identifying this as a DD....even if it were straight from the mint let alone had some wear or PMD. I looked at the pictures provided by VV. No die markers or anything to go by. I cant see any doubling in the pictures at all and surely not anything that I wouldnt disregard as so minor that it wouldnt matter. Just got me thinking that the only way Im ever going to have one of these is if I bought it from a very reputable dealer. Its not being found by an average Joe in taco bell change.

If you spend some time at Wexler's site and study on the types of Doubling out there, you can begin to train your eye/mind to look for clues that support attribution/discovery. I agree that on this 1989 DDO, it's hard to see anything. Sometimes the 'tells' are subtle; thickness of the devices might suggest doubling...but it could suggest the state of the die itself (die wash, etc.). So here is what I've noticed: most of the time the minor doubling doesn't carry significant value/interest. However, this isn't always the case. Take for example the 1995 Lincoln Cent DDOs. If you look at Coppercoins, the minor doubling is more valuable than the more obvious significant doubling (rarer and more difficult to spot). And that may be why the guy who finds a minor DDO can ask folks like us for more $$. Good luck on the hunt!

    TyCobb A product of PMD

Another prime example of why I just don't understand the effort involved in hunting for these.

LOL - Yeah, it's a labor of love. I think that most Variety Hunters start off with very short lists of things to hunt for. It expands to something ungodly but after a bit, gets whittled down to something more manageable. Unless I know that a minor variety is valuable (like the 1995 DDO), I probably wouldn't be looking for it. Like the minor doubling on the late Lincoln Memorial Cents and the Jefferson Nickels of the mid-late 2000s/2010s. Too minor and too plentiful to drive a serious premium. But easy to find.

Ironically, its probably the same year the lettuce on my chalupa was harvested.

You are one of the few people that I would say had a chance at identifying such a random/rare hard to see DD. As good as you are at this game, do you think you would recognize this coin if you got in it change out and about?????
