Hi everyone sorry, I'm sorting through 20 years of saved coins ...and starting a small collection with my 8 year old. This penny has the imprint of lincoln memorial on front and was appears to be a very strong outline of Abes head on the back . Can someone tell me what exactly this coin type is called?? So sorry for the threads im posting if nobody minds , i would love to post them with my young son....we are learning together , I never knew how evolved and tedious this actually is. But I would just love to come across something really cool. We found some unusual coins and I would love to post them .... With him ... If you all don't mind
Nice coin. What you have there is a die clash. You can read more about them here: http://error-ref.com/clash-marks.html
When I first encountered my die clashed coin I immediately thought "flip over double struck". Little did I know that it was really a die clash until I started hanging out on coin forums! Some folks refer to this as a "Jailhouse Lincoln" for obvious reasons.
As stated, this is a nice die clash. I sometimes call them "prisoner clashes" because it looks like Abe is behind bars. Keep up the hunt!
