1989 double die penny

    Was told this was a poor mans double die worth about $2.. just making sure that’s right. And it’s in pretty good condition I think. It’s red

    No, mdd is worthless. You need a true doubled die to have a premium.

    That is the price he would charge for it. Ask him if he will buy it from you and you will see what the actual value is. Jim

    Suggestion. Avoid that coin dealer. Anyone who tells you that mechanical doubling (and has the nerve to call one on a 1980s/1990s zincoln a 'poor man's doubled die' and assign it a value of a couple dollars) has 'value' above face is pulling a fast one on someone based on the other person 's lack of knowledge, and to me (see how I qualified that?) is pretty much the same as a con man or shyster would do with a mark. I say if you can't trust a man to deal fair on this, there is not much you can trust that same one to deal fair on anything.
