I believe I found my very first 1989 Doubled Die Reverse lincoln cent . It has Extra Thickness over the entire reverse unlike any I've seen before
If you say so, Rick. Honestly I still can't see anything even in varietyvista. This minor doubling is ..... zzzzzzzz.... oh, sorry, fell asleep from the boredom
It's ok Rick ... Not everyone knows that there are different varieties of Doubled dies ... even the boring ones that are already listed on variety vista . LOL
I am well aware of different varieties of doubled dies Just can't stand to look for such minor things. But hey, to each their own
Wonder why Variety vista Wexler and other Major coin sites don't mind listing such Minor DOUBLED dies
For the same reasons why scientists spend months slogging through the the Amazon jungles looking for minor differences in beetles or nematodes. Collect and research what you like. Maybe the group should be a little more forgiving to people who are interested in these areas, but generally, you're not going to get a lot of love when you post questions about micro DD. Don't forget, there are numerous newbies who constantly ask if their MD is valuable and unique. When your knowledgeable level of micro DDs is on the level of Ricks then you'll probably get a pass, but until then, you just happened to pick a field of study that gets no respect. Like Amazonian nematodes
No personally ... And I'm sure that alot of other people who read this will agree I think that we have a select few in the cointalk group that tend to like to make unnecessary little smart comments on other people's post because whether its minor or not ... Like it or not It's still a Doubled die and if it's that minor and so uninteresting then why bother to even post a smart comment on such a minor Doubled die . Infact I don't tend to like it whenever some people tend to find it there job to try and dismiss someone else post that way it's Rude and a little childish if you ask me ... And I'm pretty sure that I don't need a pass to reply to smart comments whether it's a friend or not but nevertheless thanks for the advice
I look at Variety Collecting like a Oncologist ( cancer ) doctor . You better know what your doing, or saying .... Or all ( it ) will be lost ...............................................
Its not that we don't know the difference. It's just that you have to stare at these types for awhile and your still not sure. Plus there's not a ton of interest in these types, so we kinda pay less interest in them and don't bother to educate ourselves in these varieties. Hell yeah slab one for me and i'd be glad to own it. Great find.
Or maybe some comments are misinterpreted as being negative when the actual intent was to press the fact that more evidence is or may be necessary to come to a definitive conclusion. There's an awful lot of coins on this forum deemed to be a variety based upon little more than assumption, and in some cases simply sharing a date/mint with a known variety.
