Hi everyone Was looking through the 1989 pennies I have and noticed this one 1989 with the d under 8 and 9. Most are under the 9 and 8. Even found one under the 8. Is this a significant difference?
1989 was the last year mint marks were hand punched into the die. While yours is a little unusual it's probably common. Look at the different locations on the coins in your photos.
Like @thomas mozzillo said about hand punched mm. Yours is quite a bit to the right. It might have a slight premium especially in that condition but I doubt it would be more than a buck on a good day. It's still a Cool find and I would put it in a 2x2 and keep it if I found it
Especially if the puncher had to much punch I’ll tag it and put it off to the side for now. Like I said the most common I have come across is usually under the 9 and 8. Thank you everyone!
