The mint mark "D" is slanting away from the date. Is this an error? Or just a normal minting mechanical error?

1989 Cents are copper plated. That is probably a plating issue on thw mint mark which will turn into Zinc Rot if the layer is exposed. Probably an illusion with the plating issue that makes it look slanted.

Try to remember that the mintmark was hand-punched into the working die until 1990.
