I have a 1989 ASE and was wondering if I should get it slabbed? Better pics here - http://www.cointalk.com/t220181/
In that stained details MS61 condition, not worth it, unless you can find a buyer who wants the coin. No offense. By the way, how did you acquire such a poor quality piece?
It was my grandfather's coin and he gave it to me. The coin was locked in a box that was covered in water at one point and the water dried off naturally. There was mold on the outside of the box, but none inside when it was brought up from the basement. Maybe the water helped the oxidation process. It was in the box ever since he had acquired it, so this is the first time it has seen the light for many years.
OHHHHHHHHH. That would explain it. Sell it if you want, but it won't bring anything above melt unless you try to dip that thing in acetone.
Don't bother with slabbing it, the cost is not worth the (impossible) return. Seeing that it is Grandpa's coin, put it into an AirTite and treasure it.
I really like that coin. It shows character and doesnt look like the other millions of coins for that same year. I would gladly buy that coin instead of a same old regular nice conditioned ASE.
I personally REALLY enjoy the ASEs and Walking Liberty Half Dollar designs, but due to all of the ruckus this coin went through, I wouldn't bother. I'd do what Rick said, and just put it into an airtite.
Absolutely. I would love to own some of the coins my Grandpa gave me but they were stolen. Since then I have replaced a couple of them. That is a coin you're gonna want to keep, no need for a slab. :thumb:
Yes, it would be a nice coin to flip to help you make up your mind when you're not entirely sure of the correct path forward.
Keep it. Not worth the grading cost (over $60). Also, if you want to flip a picture just view the picture on your computer and there will likely be an arrow at the bottom of the screen that comes up. Hit that arrow until it's in the correct position. If you need help, PM me, and I'll send you some screen shots.
