What I have here is a 1989 American Silver Eagle Dollar. That's all I know about it. Any info would be appreciated including grade and value. Thanks!

I love to look at circulated ASEs - since there not ment for circulation.
I have a circulated proof ASE that was given as a gift.

On the value - like what urbanch said it's worth melt.

It isn't heavily circulated. My pap gave me it and it had been locked in a box for years and years.

If your father gave it to you, don't sell it.

I love them too. In fact I like them better than mint ones because they have that old circulated silver coin look that I enjoy.

Well, by pap I mean grandpa. Anywho, I don't plan on selling it anytime soon. Could anyone give me a grade on it though?

Yea, I wouldn't be surprised if it is actually closer to MS than it appears. The discoloration from the toning pattern and black dots from oxidation make it look like a typical pocket-piece, i.e. smoothed down and dark. Aside from the reverse scratch and ding, the main devices still look full (the head, dress lines, rev motto, wings, shield). I bet this was just sitting around for 23 years unprotected from the environment and got knocked around a few times. It doesn't help matters that you have to turn your head to the side to see it (or lift up your laptop and rotate accordingly:p), so here:

Melt value is hovering around $30 a troy oz., so that's about what you have. However, ASE's generally sell for a slight premium.

Wow, I like the look of that coin. I may take one of my ASEs, let it become a pocket piece for awhile and introduce it to some environmental exposure. Beats seeing milk spots on them!

Sorry about the sideways pictures (I'm new and I don't know how to flip them) and I appreciate the info. Also, the coin was locked in a box that was covered in water at one point and the water dried off naturally. There was mold on the outside of the box, but none inside when it was brought up from the basement. Maybe the water helped the oxidation process.
