I have been looking at change for a while, although pennies is a new area of interest for me. I recently discovered this 1988 specimen, what troubles is the area just next to the "in" of "in god we trust". It looks like a mis-strike, or something like that, but if you look closely you can almost make out a faint "g" above "god" and it might just be me, but next to and within "liberty" there are some oddities, and just above the "1988" seems like some ghost prints, not sure on this one. Would certainly appreciate some opinions. 1988Penny.JPG 1988Penny.JPG

This is caused by a heavily deteriorated die and was very common in the 1980s.

Thanks for the information, but to be more specific, does this coin have any collectibility or would you prefer that I threw it back into circulation so that someone else can eventually discover it, and create a first time post that seems to serve more as an annoyance than an honest question from a novice coin collector?

Just curious, since your reply, while insightful as far as the origins of this coin, served little to support your role in the "What's it worth?" forum……

    Again, thanks for the help.
