After almost conscientiously viewing penny after penny, this one jumped right out at me. The first image is of a normal 1988 P Penny referenced from PCGS Coinfacts. A link is provided just above the image. The following images show the lettering on the coin in my possession. I am interested in how this is viewed in the numismatic community as far as how it was caused and if there is any value (collectible) associated with it? https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1988-1c-rb/3102
It is not a different (or strange) font. It is simply a die that is deteriorating from repeated use. FWIW, it is a similar concept to that which formed the Grand Canyon.
